Forums » Project Fedena - Security and Performance » accessing fedena on LAN
I have installed fedena on ubuntu 10.10 and working fine.

When i access fedena on my local computer ie localhost:3000 it open very fast but when access through LAN ie the page take long time to open.

how do i solve that?

secondly how do i change fedena default port?
To solve the speed issue, run "sudo gem install mongrel".
Then navigate to fedena directory and run "mongrel_rails start"
This will solve speed issue.

Next use the -p option to change port.
run "mongrel_rails start -p 80 -d" . This will run fedena on port 80, so you may just enter the ip.

Thx soorajb,

fedena speed on LAN is very good now.I appreciate, but port :3000 still don't change after running "mongrel_rails start -p 80 -d"

My next task is to install fedena on a web server.

1. How do i go about that?

2. When buying domain name and web space what should i consider for fedena to work well on a web server.

3. how do i hyper link from another page to fedena user/logon page on a web server

best wishes
Well, you are supposed to run on port 80 with that. try
mongrel_rails start -e production -p 80 -d

If you are using a linux server, see that video in the install page ( the ubuntu one)
Fedena source is around 30 mb. Database size depends upon your data.
You will need to run fedena in subdomain. just link to that will go to the login page...

i tried installing mongrel according to the instructions you gave above but its failing to install. im getting an error masseg that says:

fedena@fedena-HP-d530-SFF-DK907A:~$ sudo gem install mongrel
Building native extensions. This could take a while...

Can you please help.
install development package of ruby.

install it by following command(for ruby version 1.8):

sudo apt-get install ruby1.8-dev
thanks sanjay, now its faster than ever.
Can you explain better how to modify the port 3000?
Yes you could change the fedena running port by following command

for webrick server

script/server -p 3001

for mongrel server

mongrel_rails start -p 3002
